Honeywell Video Security Systems

Honeywell Video Security Systems required a series of graphics, video and other system-level device drivers to support their next generation video security system.

ALT worked closely with Honeywell engineers from initial design to final production and delivered a suite of embedded software and firmware that supports graphics, audio, video, and computing functions. The deliverables included custom video drivers to support several Intel Extreme Graphics and AMD ATI Radeon GPU on the Wind River VxWorks real-time operating system. ALT Software also provided LCD display drivers, CD-RW device drivers, PCI-IDE controller firmware, and Intel-based AC97 codec audio drivers. Today, ALT Software’s solutions are used in a number of Honeywell’s commercial-grade video security systems.

Optosecurity – Airport Carry-on Luggage Scanning System

Optosecurity, a leader in the airport security industry, wanted to upgrade their “Optoscreener,” a carry-on baggage checkpoint screening device that uses X-Rays to automatically detect weapons and liquid threats. Optosecurity wanted to add 3D modeling capabilities to the Optoscreener to improve its liquid threat detection capabilities.

ALT collaborated with Optosecurity and completed a series of research and development initiatives that laid the groundwork for this technology solution. ALT supported Optosecurity through the entire project, assisting with the development of sophisticated algorithms that could successfully reconstruct and analyze a container’s contents in 3D using traditional 2D X-ray data. Today, ALT Software’s 3D modeling solutions are used in airport security systems worldwide.

RPC Electronics and Silicon Turnkey Express - Industrial Controls

RPC Electronics and Silicon Turnkey Express required a company with significant video and graphics expertise to provide OpenGL ES and OpenVG graphics drivers and assist with low-level industrial software design and development for their customers' next generation industrial control display systems.

Through a multiyear engagement, ALT has supported RPC Electronics and STx customers by providing a series of OpenGL ES graphics drivers as well as system integration and technical support services for the development and launch of a number of next-generation industrial control display panels. A cost-effective alternative to building an entire in-house graphics support division, RPC Electronics and Silicon Turnkey Express continue to leverage ALT's products and technical support services, field application engineers (FAE), and Development Services group to support their customers’ needs.

North Sails RM: Step Motor Controller

The world’s leading manufacturer of racing and cruising sails, North Sails wanted to add a higher level of automation to sail making machines that required manual adjustment of the thread laying arms. Their solution was to develop an industrial control device that would allow network-based control of step motors being added to each of the thread laying arms.

ALT Software provided a series of board-level software modules, custom graphical applications, and on-site system integration services for this new step motor controller. After being successfully deployed and tested on the target sail making machine, this new industrial control system was then migrated to a new sail making machine capable of three times the production of the original. At less than $200.00 per unit, the new compact industrial control system ALT developed with North Sails has proven itself as a cost-effective alternative to expensive industrial PLC controllers and PC-based control systems.
