ALT Software Announces their Next Generation DO-178B certifiable OpenGL Drivers

August 20, 2008 - ALT Software, the leading provider of advanced graphics software for safety-critical embedded systems, today announced the launch of OpenGL SC support for the ATI Mobility Radeon™ X1400 graphics processor unit (GPU) from AMD (NYSE: AMD). Building on the success of its certifiable OpenGL driver libraries for the ATI Mobility Radeon™ 9000, and developed as a part of ALT Software's continued commitment to supporting the AMD Embedded GPU roadmap, this OpenGL SC software stack enables embedded system integrators and OEMs to deploy highly complex graphical user interfaces in next generation avionics applications.

The ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 GPU is the ideal balance between power and performance with a native x16-lane PCI Express® bus interface but low power consumption. Compatibility Power PC testing is completed by AMD and extended temperature screening is available. One of the key features centers around their "programmable shaders" which are established as a group of registers and thus no onboard compiler is necessary. Keeping in mind the complications of certification, shaders for the ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 are not significantly different from the ATI Mobility Radeon 9000, which greatly reduces the risk to DO178-B certification.

“We believe the ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 provides an excellent transition path for our current ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 customers, as it remains low power but demonstrates up to 10 times in performance improvements” said Darryl Parisien, President of ALT Software. “ALT is fully committed to our strategic relationship with AMD. We are pleased to announce the availability of DO-178B certifiable X1400 OpenGL Drivers that allow easy transition for our customers to next generation GPU technology.”

“The ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 GPU is ideally suited to applications that require very high graphics performance per watt,” said Richard Jaenicke, director of Embedded Graphics, AMD. “We are excited that ALT has developed a PowerPC-compatible OpenGL driver to enable that graphics performance in safety critical applications.”

The ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 GPU is available immediately. ALT is also offering reference hardware designs in various form factors.
