ALT Software and Channel One Limited Introduce Leading Edge, High performance DO-178B Certifiable Integrated Modular Avionics Solutions

ALT and Channel One combine forces to deliver AMD/ ATI M9/ M54 graphics processors and OpenGL libraries designed for the aerospace and defense market

TORONTO, Canada - December 9, 2008
- ALT Software, a worldwide supplier of safety-critical 2D/3D advanced graphics software and development services announced today that it has teamed with Channel One Limited, a leader in the long-term supply of electronic components for the aerospace and defense markets, to provide end-to-end DO-178B certifiable graphics solutions for customers who build high reliability systems for the commercial avionics and military aerospace industries. This collaboration will specifically focus on technical optimizations as well as solidifying all aspects of the supply chain for the industry leading ATI Mobility Radeon™ 9000 (M9) and X1400 (M54) Graphic Processor Units (GPUs) from AMD/ATI.

By combining high performance certifiable OpenGL drivers with secure component supplies for both the M9 and M54 GPUs, aerospace customers will be able to confidently design these optimal chips into next generation aerospace and defense systems, reduce their certification effort and lengthen their product life cycle.

ALT’s OpenGL ES SC drivers enable the performance benefits of hardware accelerated graphics and support a variety of real-time operating system (RTOS), standard or custom central processor unit (CPU) and graphic processor unit (GPU) combinations. Certifiable to DO-178B Level A, ALT Software’s 2D/3D graphic libraries provide many product options including driver binaries, binaries plus source code, diagnostic tools, and the full set of artifacts required for the entire certification life cycle.

Channel One specialize in supporting long term industrial, medical , military and avionics projects with the supply of high end, high reliability electronic components from key manufacturers. Channel One’s supply processes include procurement of components nearing end of life, detailed quality inspection, component history and documentation and the long term, secure, dry air storage of components. In addition, the PCI Express M54 chips will be pre-screened for extended temperature use, thus alleviating the customer of the risk of parts failing environmental temperature tests. With supplies of both components, Channel One is able to support long term contracts and currently has services contracts beyond 10 years for both the M54 and M9. Although both components are in restricted supply, it is currently still possible to provide new service contracts for projects requiring high volume parts.

“Channel One’s distribution management, AMD’s PCI Express M54 GPU and ALT’s OpenGL libraries all uniquely combine to address the high performance requirements, end of life, technical support and DO178B software requirements demanded by the avionics industry”,” said Dan Joncas, vice president of sales at ALT Software, “Customers should feel confident that with this hardware/software integration and company collaboration, they will continue to be serviced for both the M9 and M54 for years and years to come.”

"With component supply guaranteed at contract signing, secure long term dry air storage for all moisture and contaminant sensitive components and contract financing available, Channel One strives to satisfy all life cycle management issues for these GPUs,” said Damian Fozard, Managing Director of Channel One Limited. “Together with ALT Software, we have the unique ability to remove any risk related to supply chain management in an industry that depends on component availability and certifiable software support for decades to come.”
