ALT Software Unlocks 2D/3D Graphics for Freescale’s MPC5121e

Nuremberg, Germany (Embedded World Congress) February 26, 2008 – ALT Software, the leading provider of advanced 2D/3D graphics software in embedded systems, today announced their services support for Freescale Semiconductor’s MPC5121e system-on-chip processor. ALT was selected by Freescale to be the primary provider of complete end-to-end services and support for MPC5121e graphics requirements, including OpenGL ES, OpenVG and custom implementations.

The MPC5121e processor is a highly integrated, multi-core system-on-chip (SoC) device, optimized for high-performance, power-sensitive telematics applications, as well as industrial applications requiring complex graphics, multimedia and real-time audio processing. It combines an e300 core built on Power Architecture technology with an integrated 2D/3D graphics core and a fully programmable 32-bit RISC-based multimedia acceleration core optimized for audio processing.

Leveraging ALT’s experience with Imagination Technology’s PowerVR MBX Lite and the e300 Power Architecture core, ALT will be providing end-to-end support for OpenGL ES 1.1 and OpenVG 1.0 to MPC5121e and its customers, globally, across all vertical markets. The customer enabling development services will be the first phase in ALT’s support on this SoC, followed closely by ALT’s product support when MPC 5121e processors and COTS hardware are readily available. In addition, ALT’s MPC5121e services and solutions will be optimized to integrate tightly with leading graphics tool suites including Quantum3D’s iData and Fluffy Spider’s FancyPants.

“With the commercial availability of the MPC5121e processors in April 2008, we are pleased to have ALT as our ‘go to’ 2D/3D embedded graphics experts for our customers,” said Mike Bryars, manager of Freescale’s Global Telematics Operations. “The MPC5121e is the ideal SoC to proliferate into multiple markets with high performance graphics requirements, and we are confident that ALT, with more than a decade of 2D/3D expertise, is the most experienced graphics partner to provide high quality support along with the necessary ecosystem for tools optimizations for this innovative product line.”

“Freescale’s MPC5121e, with its powerful multi-core architecture and rich peripheral set, is expected to be one of the most sought after SoCs on the market today and in the foreseeable future,” said Darryl Parisien, President of ALT Software. “ALT Software is fully committed to its partnership with Freescale to specifically support this impressive processor, and its customers, with best-in-class graphics solutions and integration services.”

“Quantum3D and ALT Software have had a long partnership history, so teaming up to support Freescale’s MPC5121e through ALT’s OpenGL products and professional services and our iData™ Human Machine Interface (HMI) tools just makes great technology and business sense,” said Mark Snyder, Director of Embedded Software Engineering at Quantum3D. “iData enables rapid prototyping and development of dynamic cross platform 2D/3D OpenGL-based HMIs and will speed OEMs’ time to market when deploying MPC5121e-based embedded systems.”

“Fluffy Spider Technologies is pleased and excited to work with ALT and Freescale to optimize our respective solutions,“ said Robi Karp, CEO, Fluffy Spider Technologies. “FancyPants™ SDK with API libraries and embedded run-time is the perfect complement of easy-to-use graphics tools to ALT’s expert integration services and the impressive MPC5121e multi-core features. The combination of these world class solutions and an unbeatable support team will ensure a great customer experience.”
