RTOS graphics driver leader introduces new driver architecture that supports next generation discrete embedded graphics processors and integrated graphics cores in SoCs.
May 31, 2012, Toronto, Canada. ALT Software is announcing plans to release the fourth generation of their widely adopted graphics drivers for safety critical and general purpose embedded systems. “This new driver architecture leverages ALT's 18 years of experience delivering high reliability graphics processor-based solutions to embedded device manufacturers”, said Robert Atkinson, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, ALT Software. “It will support the latest generation of embedded graphics processors and SoCs, providing unprecedented levels of graphics performance in aerospace and defense systems, medical devices, and other embedded computing platforms requiring high reliability graphics services.”
The first supported graphics processor will be the AMD Radeon E6760 GPU, integrated with the Green Hills INTEGRITY RTOS, and targeted for deployment in a next generation situational awareness avionics display system as part of a United States Department of Defense procurement. ALT’s Radeon E6760 driver will support both the OpenGL ES 1.1 and ES 2.0 graphics APIs, with support available for additional features and video extensions upon request. The new driver architecture will also support graphics cores built into system-on-chip (SoC) processors. The first supported SoC platform will be the Texas Instruments Sitara AM3359, which includes the Imagination Technologies POWERVR SGX graphics core. This platform will also target the Green Hills INTEGRITY RTOS and can be extended to support other TI processor families such as OMAP.
“Many embedded systems today require a combination of high quality graphics and powerful processing to support a variety of computing tasks, said Joe Fabbre, Director of Platform solutions, Green Hills Software. “The combination of the Green Hills INTEGRITY RTOS with ALT Software’s new graphics drivers enables rapid design and deployment of sophisticated systems with advanced graphics capabilities for a wide range of applications.”
ALT Software’s new graphics driver architecture is the fourth generation of their popular embedded OpenGL product line. The company provides safety critical graphics drivers for high reliability systems such as commercial and military aircraft, medical devices, and industrial control systems. Customers include Boeing, Lockheed Martin, EADS, L3 Communications, Sikorsky, and many other well known leaders in the aerospace and defense sector.
